If you attended the event and have any comments or recommendations for future presentations then please let us know by email - oasis@contextis.co.uk.

The presentations from this event were based on recommendations we received from our clients and industry professionals, on subjects they thought would be relevant and interesting, so we are keen to get some new ideas for next time.

We will be confirming details of the next Oasis in the coming months which will take place in October 2012. Please keep an eye out on LinkedIn or Twitter, or register your interest here.

On Thursday 1st March 2012 Context invite you to the re-launch of our Oasis event at Shoreditch House in East London. This will be an opportunity to introduce and discuss our recent research and upcoming projects amongst members of our team as well as other professionals from the IT security industry. Tea and coffee will be provided upon arrival at 3.30pm which will be promptly followed by two presentations beginning at 3.50pm, ‘Surviving the Cloud’ and ‘Espionage: The Real Threat’ presented by our technical consultants.

‘Surviving the Cloud’ by Michael Jordan

Organisations are moving parts of their infrastructure into the Cloud, the business drivers are too strong to prevent this migration but what really are the security risks? There is a lot of publicity around the security concerns and so Context undertook a detailed and thorough research project in order to establish what this means in reality. By renting Cloud nodes from various providers Context investigated the new landscape of attacks that are present in the new Cloud environment. The conclusions highlighted a great deal of concerns and the providers have been working with Context to mitigate these issues. This presentation will cover this new world and what it actually means to hack into the cloud. Furthermore, the presentation will cover the steps that can be taken to manage the risk and limit the potential impact.

‘Espionage: The Real Threat’ by Peter Barbour and Laura Aylward

From target selection to data exfiltration this presentation examines the various tools and techniques used by sophisticated state-sponsored attackers to infiltrate your network. The presentation will draw upon examples of malicious tools used in recent attacks and highlight the ease with which off-the-shelf security products can be bypassed. It’s not all bad news though; with over 100 years collective experience on Targeted Attacks Context will be detailing some steps that can be taken to defend against this attacker and reduce your risk.

Following the presentations we will move into the Biscuit Pin Lounge for drinks, canapés and relaxed conversation. For those of you who like a challenge you will be welcome to take advantage of the unique two-lane bowling alley as well.
