Senior Engineer (Cheltenham)

Context is currently recruiting for a Senior Engineer to work within their Response team, which delivers Incident Response services to a diverse range of clients involving large, complicated environments targeted by very capable malicious actors. 

The role encompasses providing technical support to a range of toolsets and infrastructure facilitating the operational delivery of Context’s Incident Response services.

The successful candidate will have a firm understanding of Windows, Windows AD, Linux, and scripting capability, as well as a general knowledge of core cyber security principles.

The ability and will to learn new technologies is a must as the role would likely be varied with the ability to take on projects with technologies they may not be familiar with.

The Role

We have an opening for an additional role within our Response Engineering Team, supporting the wider Response Team by helping to develop and maintain our core technical capability. Core responsibilities for this role are:

• Gaining an appreciation for how the Response toolsets are used with a view to continually improving service to users;
• Working with customers to deploy necessary endpoint and networking monitoring tools in the initial stages of an engagement;
• Ensure the effective running of existing systems, which includes regular maintenance and compliance with necessary regulations;
• Supporting client engagements;
• Maintaining and improving technical services and capabilities.

This list is not intended to be exhaustive and the incumbent will be expected to take on additional responsibilities as directed by their Line Manager or as dictated by the business needs of the company.

Engineers in this area are often required to help support consultants by providing technical support on conference calls and occasionally onsite.

Person Specification

  • Working experience and knowledge of Linux administration;
  • Working experience and knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Active directory;
  • Working experience and knowledge of at least one scripting language;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of common network protocols such as TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, TLS.

  • The successful candidate will have 4+ years of experience in an engineering position, with experience in the above areas.

    Desirable Experience

  • Knowledge of cyber security principles, including network security hardware and software, and risks associated with various technologies and ways to manage them;
  • Knowledge of SQL database administration;
  • Knowledge of VMWare administration and architecture.

  • The successful candidate will also be able to demonstrate the following skills:

  • Experience troubleshooting and providing feedback on in-house and third-party provided tools;
  • Exceptional problem solving abilities, analysis and communication skills;
  • Verbal communication skills, including presentation skills, with an ability to communicate with a range of technical and non-technical team members and other relevant individuals.
  • Written communication skills, for example to write technical changes.
  • Time-management and organizational skills to manage a variety of tasks, prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills and an ability to analyze complex technical information in order to identify patterns and trends.
  • An ability to work under pressure, particularly when dealing with threats and at times of high demand.

    Location/ Travel / Out of Hours Work

    The role is based in our Cheltenham office. Occasional travel is a possibility.

    The role may occasionally require the individual to work outside normal business hours. Context prides itself on responding quickly whenever our clients require us.
