Context was founded in 1998 by Mark Raeburn and Alex Church to help businesses and organisations meet information security challenges and deal with fast-growing cyber threats. Over the past 20 years, Context has built up a reputation as highly-skilled cyber security specialists and worked with some of the world’s most successful companies and public sector organisations to mitigate the risk of attack and respond rapidly to security incidents and breaches.
From a UK-centric organisation, Context has established a worldwide presence, opening its first office in Germany in 2009, followed by Australia in 2011 and most recently expanding to Scotland and the USA. Context now has around 250 employees in 10 offices around the world and boasts a first-class trainee programme to help develop future cyber security professionals. In 2013, Context became part of Babcock, the UK’s leading engineering support services company, to create a strong platform to enhance the range of services offered by Babcock and expand into new markets.
Context began as a penetration testing consultancy and played a key role in setting up CREST, the not-for-profit organisation established to meet the need for a regulated and professional technical security testing industry. Mark Raeburn and Alex Church were recently made Fellows of CREST in recognition of this support. Context is also one of seven companies certified by NCSC's Cyber Incident Response (CIR) scheme to help UK organisations respond effectively to cyber security attacks. This reflects Context’s highly-skilled Response team that has experience of handling complex, high profile and business critical breaches and investigations.
“While the threat landscape has evolved considerably over the last 20 years, our focus is the same – to help clients manage their cyber risk, avoid potential breaches and to deter, detect and respond to increasingly sophisticated cyber-attacks,” said Mark Raeburn, CEO at Context. “Our goal at the outset was to offer holistic cyber security guidance and services and today we provide specialist technical consultancy and a wide range of cyber advisory services, from penetration testing and assurance to incident management and response and technical security research.”
