Context strengthens advisory team

10 Oct 2017

Context Information Security continues to make senior appointments adding to its rapidly expanding strategic advisory team in the face of unrelenting cyber threats.

With the addition of our latest cyber gurus Gareth Evans, Phil Litherland, Rob Orr and Gary Horscroft, the Advisory practice hits 20 strong in less than 10 months. The latest hires come in as Principal Advisors helping clients adopt a proactive cyber security stance to avoid potential breaches through strategic prevention and planning. Context also provide a range of Cyber Resilience services to deter, detect, respond to, and learn from, the most sophisticated cyber threats. These range from interim CISO, threat hunting, security (protective) monitoring, simulation exercises and skills training, through to rapid incident response, investigative forensics, incident / crisis management and post-incident advisory.

Gareth Evans specialises in cyber security and operational risk within financial services. He has spent the last 12 years working in financial services within the world’s largest Swiss and US Investment Banks. During this time, Gareth was instrumental in developing and implementing Operational Risk frameworks to meet regulatory and security requirements across multi-national, cross border environments. Evans can help organisations to understand key threats and plan, implement and manage appropriate mitigating controls to operate within an acceptable risk appetite.

Phil Litherland joins from the EDF Energy Hinkley Point C project and is an experienced senior level engineering and technology professional with a proven track record of safety and security risk management in both the IT and Industrial Control Systems/Operational Technology (ICS/OT) sectors. Litherland will provide cyber security and information assurance advice, technical support and practical guidance for organisations across Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) sectors, particularly the civil nuclear, energy and utilities industries.

Prior to joining Context, Rob Orr worked at regulatory bodies covering the civil nuclear sector after completing 20+ years’ service in the British Army, half of which was spent working in intelligence and security.  His focus is to provide strategic advice, practical cyber risk management support and assessment services to other CNI regulators, key CNI clients and across industrial sectors with a focus on significant risk posed by cyber-physical threats.

Gary Horscroft joins as Cyber Advisory Associate and looks to combine his considerable experience with up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the cyber threat landscape faced by the public and private sectors. Horscroft has significant background in strategic security planning, risk management and policy development. He has also been active in senior levels in the law enforcement, military, security and intelligence communities, having been responsible for providing expert advice to the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, identifying and coordinating the UK’s response to cyber threats at GCHQ and advising the RAF Board on how to manage security risks.

“Phil, Rob, Gary and Gareth all bring in-depth practical experience and knowledge to our rapidly growing advisory team,” said Mark Raeburn, CEO at Context. “Faced with an ever more dangerous and growing threat landscape, organisations need to be doing all they can to understand and mitigate the risks of cyber attacks and it is no coincidence that our advisory division has grown significantly in the last year.”
