Security of connected smart home devices

11 Jul 2018

Context recently completed some research for the Consumer Association (Which?) into the privacy implications of a wide range of connected smart home devices.

Working alongside Which?, analysts and researchers from Context’s Response and Research teams analysed devices that included a smart toothbrush, robot vacuum cleaner and IP security camera.

For more details see the article from Which? https://www.which.co.uk/news/2018/06/which-investigation-reveals-staggering-level-of-smart-home-surveillance/, and further coverage in the Guardian newspaper https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2018/jun/01/uk-homes-vulnerable-to-staggering-level-of-corporate-surveillance.

Whilst the initial investigation focussed on the privacy aspects of how the various smart devices communicate with across the Internet, later research will focus more on potential security issues.
